Last week Big Oil joined with the folks in Washington to treat us to a lovely dance of the Potomac Two-Step.

“COME AND LISTEN TO A STORY BOUT AN INDUSTRY IN BED,
With the hacks up on the Hill, but the voters seein’ red
Then one day Katrina came, and nobody stopped it
But up through the wreckage flowed a mountain of profit
OIL THAT IS….BLACK GOLD….TEXAS TEA….
Well the first thing you know returns-on-capital are risin’
Public backlash got em scared, new taxes they are eyein’
Said “Washingtony the place, we may want to be.”
Then maybe we can get, the public to agree
THE HILL THAT IS….OUR FRIENDS…REDISTRICTING…
So they staged a silly dance with the folks up on the hill
Sounded all apologetic before the prospect of a bill
But this country is great, founded on the right to earn a wage
And if you take that away no new investments they will make
IN CAPACITY THAT IS…NEW DRILLS…REFINERIES
So here’s a little note to politicians scoring points
Taxin’ big earl ain’t the answer you disgusting little oinks
Keep your hands out of industry, because it isn’t fair
But who said the world was, especially for those with red hair….
UNFAIR THAT IS…ESPECIALLY FOR THOSE WITH RED HAIR & FRECKLES….
Well now it’s time to say good by to Big Oil and all their kin.
And they would like to thank you folks fer kindly droppin in.
Y’all come back now, y’hear?.”
